Luka Magic in Memphis

The Dallas Mavericks walk away from Memphis with a comeback win in an absolute THRILLER!

Dallas found themselves down 5 with just over a minute to play in the fourth. They claw back with buckets from Kristaps Porzingis and Luka Doncic to make it 113-111 Grizzlies, with 3.2 seconds on the clock.

Luka is at the line. After making it a 2-point game, he misses the second free throw. Grayson Allen grabs the rebound and is fouled immediately with 2.2 ticks left.

Allen was terrific all night. He was Memphis’ leading scorer with 23 points, and an 88% free throw shooter. The Grizzlies could not have asked for a better situation to close out the game.

If he makes both, Memphis goes up 4, this game is over…

Dwight Powell swoops in with a strong rebound, followed by an immediate timeout.

1.8 seconds remain

114-113 Mavs. Ball game!

As Luka released the ball with 0.1 second left, my brain initially thought, “there’s no way, that’s too unorthodox.” As the ball floated in the air, not going through just yet, my brain immediately pivoted to, “yeah that joint going in, isn’t it.”

What a joy to watch. Writers and analysts spend too much time criticizing every move a player makes, but sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy the magic that is Luka Doncic.

I mentioned in my previous article that this game will say a lot about the identity of this team. The Mavericks showed heart last night, and the will to never give up. They were trailing almost the entire game until that final shot, and showed resiliency fighting back into this one.

This team plays hard every single night. There is never a finger pointed at a particular player for lack of effort or competitiveness, where you’ll see that with plenty of other teams in the league. At the end of the day, this is just one win, but this road win could spark a much-needed run by the young Dallas Mavericks.
